TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The treasurer of a Leon County Schools’ Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is behind bars for allegedly defrauding the organization of over $20,000, according to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).

Deputies say Kimberly Colonna, 45, turned herself in on Tuesday, per jail records. She was charged with an organized scheme to defraud and grand theft of over $20,000.

According to state financial records, Colonna was the treasurer of the PTO at Killearn Lakes Elementary.

The investigation began after a complaint reported to the sheriff’s office on Aug. 13 alleged “financial discrepancies” in the PTO’s business checking account.

Investigators discovered that between August 2025 and July 2026, Colonna issued multiple checks to herself totaling $26,674.72.

The press release further states that the former PTO treasurer was also the authorized cosigner on the account.

The investigation revealed that these checks were reportedly used for “personal financial needs.” LCSO says the checks identified in the investigation matched bank records.

Jail records show that Colonna is out of jail on supervised pre-trial release.

An attorney at the local law firm Bogenschutz PLLC is representing Colonna and said she was “extremely remorseful” for the alleged crime and is committed to seeking justice.

Mrs. Colonna is extremely remorseful for her actions and had already confessed to multiple people before I met her. We voluntarily went to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office to assist them in their investigation and we are grateful for their professionalism and that of the Office of the State Attorney. While she never has been in legal trouble before, Mrs. Colonna knows what she did was wrong, has admitted to it, and is committed to making it right.
