TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The holiday weekend is just about here, leaving many wondering how the weather will shape up for outdoor plans. You will need to dodge some showers and storms. However, this is NOT looking like a washout of a holiday.
The rest of today
Scattered rain and storms continue this afternoon, thanks to a tropical wave moving through the Northern Gulf. This will keep the region mostly cloudy through the evening. Warm and humid in between showers.
The clouds stick around through the overnight, leaving us with a warm and muggy overnight. Areas of patchy fog as you wake up on Friday morning. Lows in the mid to upper 70s.
Valdosta State may battle some showers and storms close to kickoff this evening. However, most of the game should be rain-free, if not all of it.
Labor Day Weekend
The tropical wave is still lingering in the Northern Gulf waters on Friday morning. This will help keep the humid and partly cloudy skies around for much of the day. Scattered showers and storms at any time during your Friday. If you have plans during the daytime, you may have to dodge some rain. Highs in the low 90s.
For those heading to Football on Friday night, I expect MOST areas to be done with the wet weather by kickoff. Temperatures in the 80s and slightly less humid. There should be some breaks in cloud cover too.
Saturday is looking like a more typical summer day with a bright start to the day, turning partly sunny in the afternoon. Grab the shades and the rain jacket if you are going to be out and about as scattered showers develop in the afternoon. Highs in the low to mid-90s.
A cold front will slowly approach the area from the north. Combine this with the sea breeze, and coverage of rain and storms will be higher. Highs in the upper 80s and low 90s. The front will be closest to the area on Monday, making Labor Day slightly more cloudy with scattered rain. It should not be a washout of a day. Just be sure to have backup indoor plans if you have the barbecue going in the afternoon.
Beach and Boating
For those heading to the coast for the holiday weekend, winds should be between 5 and 10 knots throughout the weekend. 1-foot waves and a light chop on the protected waters.
Mainly morning showers for the beaches on Friday.
Scattered showers during the late morning and early afternoon on Saturday and Sunday.
Mainly afternoon showers and storms on Labor Day.
High pressure settles in midweek, bringing lower rain coverage and higher temperatures back into the low and mid 90s.
