A dedicated team of local volunteers known as the “Publi-Cats” is working around the clock to care for a rapidly growing colony of more than 100 abandoned felines living behind a Hialeah grocery store.
The cats reside directly behind the Publix Super Market located at 3251 East 2nd Avenue.
Volunteers actively manage the colony by providing daily food, clean water, and necessary medical care. They have even launched a custom website to help promote adoptions and find permanent homes for the animals.
However, organizers warn that despite their ongoing efforts and local spay-and-neuter initiatives, the colony continues to expand as irresponsible pet owners frequently dump new cats at the site. With South Florida animal shelters completely overwhelmed, volunteers emphasize that community adoption remains the only viable, long-term solution to protect these animals.
