Jahmir Moore was 15 when police arrested him in connection to the death of 14-year-old Jevario Buie.
TAMPA, Fla. — A jury has found 17-year-old Jahmir Moore guilty as charged in the 2024 murder of 14-year-old Jevario Buie.
The decision came down Thursday night in a Hillsborough County courtroom. Moore was found guilty of first degree murder, carrying a concealed firearm, tampering with evidence and minor in possession of a firearm. He was tried as an adult.

Moore, who was 15 at the time of his arrest, was seen on surveillance video walking with Buie shortly before his death on April 17, 2024. Three minutes later, Moore was seen walking back without Buie.
Buie’s body was found near the railroad tracks between Busch Boulevard and Rome Avenue after Tampa police responded to reports of gunshots in the area.
Detectives later said they found records of Moore communicating with Buie before the murder, and social media messages, notes and search history that implicated him in Buie’s death.
He was arrested on Dec. 4 by Tampa police and U.S. Marshals. Days after being taken into custody, Moore escaped from the Hillsborough Regional Juvenile Detention Center and was later found.
Buie’s grandfather previously told investigators that Jevario went near the train tracks thinking he was going to stand up to a bully. Instead, he said, he was ambushed and killed.
Jury selection for Moore’s murder trial began Tuesday morning. His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 16.
