Rain likely this afternoon, more chances for showers through the holiday weekend for Tallahassee, the Big Bend and South Georgia

  • September 5, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Holiday weekend often means outdoor activities are happening for many. The weather will be okay for most of the weekend to get outside. However, scattered showers develop this afternoon and look likely again tomorrow night and Labor Day.

Foggy start for some

If you have early morning errands to run, some areas of fog have developed this morning. It will slow down your drive just a bit especially if you along highway 84 and I-10. Visibility has been under 2 miles this morning and fallen as low as 0.25 mile in pockets. Take it slower on your morning drive. Fog should lift shortly after sunrise.

A dense fog advisory continues through 9 a.m. for Leon, Gadsden, Seminole, Decatur, Grady, Thomas, Brooks and Lowndes counties.

Scattered PM showers

Saturday will be dry for most of the day. There will be some scattered showers and storms mainly in the afternoon. The coverage of rain looks a little lower compared to yesterday.

The best chance to see rain will be for the Big Bend of Florida, mainly south of I-10 and near I-75. Showers will be moving southwest to northeast along the Gulf coast sea breeze this afternoon. Partly sunny for most of the area. Highs in the low 90s.

Sunday will start with partly to mostly sunny skies and temperatures mild in the mid-70s. Clouds will build throughout the mid to late morning, but with a west wind temperatures should easily climb into the low 90s by lunch. Hot and humid before scattered showers develop after 2 p.m. along the Gulf sea breeze. Showers mainly stay south of I-10 tomorrow afternoon.

Additional showers and storms will develop in South Georgia on Sunday evening as a cold front will approaches the area. These thunderstorms will move south eventually merging with the sea breeze near or after dinner tomorrow evening.

Some storms will contain gusty winds between 40 and 60 mph, which could bring down branches or trees and lead to isolated power outages. Be sure to have a way to get weather alerts if you are going to be outdoors on Sunday evening.

If you avoid the showers and storms, beach and boating conditions will be good. Most of today’s activity will be north of highway 98. However, those heading to inland Franklin County and Saint George Island may face some showers early in the afternoon.

Waves will be 1 foot or less with a light chop on the bays and protected waters through Monday. Scattered storms possible each afternoon. Sunrise and sunset fishing and boating looks good.

Monday morning will be the only morning for the holiday weekend that may be a little risky with storms approaching the coast.

FSU forecast

Labor Day will be partly to mostly cloudy with scattered rain and a few storms in the afternoon. Highs in the low 90s.

The best chance of rain will be during any tailgate plans in the afternoon before kickoff.

There will be some showers around the region around kickoff at Doak. Hopefully they will be far enough away or without lightning to get the game going on time.

By halftime any showers that were around should be gone. A mild game with temperatures in the 80s.

Scattered showers near kickoff and during pregame. Rain should be gone for most of the game.Scattered showers near kickoff and during pregame. Rain should be gone for most of the game.(WCTV)Tracking the tropics

The peak of hurricane season is less than one week away, and the Atlantic is making a run at history. There have been no hurricanes so far in the basin.

The latest a hurricane has developed in recorded history is September 11. There were two different occasions. In 2013, Humberto tied Gustav from 2002 as the latest hurricane to develop.

There is a really good chance the Atlantic shatters the record this season unless something develops quickly, which seems unlikely right now.

There is no area of interest being monitored by the National Hurricane Center and the clusters of storms over the Gulf Waters do not have me concerned right now.

No development is expected in the next 7 days.No development is expected in the next 7 days.(WCTV)

I will keep my eyes on any changes as we approach the peak of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season next week.
