FORT PIERCE – St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office was searching for an explosive device at Fort Pierce Central High School, 4101 25th St., Fort Pierce on Sept. 4, after the school received a call that a bomb was in the building.

The call came at about 12:30 p.m., Sheriff Richard Del Toro said during a press briefing at about 1:30 p.m.

“We decided to do a partial evacuation of all the students,” he said. “Right now, we’re doing a modified dismissal, which means our walkers and drivers would be released first, then parents would be allowed on campus to pick up any students remaining. Buses would also be allowed to pick up any students remaining.”

In addition to sheriff’s deputies, members of the bomb team and Fort Pierce Police were actively searching the building for any possible device but so far, nothing has been found, Del Toro said.

“You’re going to see a lot of police presence here, traffic is going to be congested. We’re asking everyone to please be patient,” he said.
