  • September 6, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – We are in for a hot September day. If you have plans to be out and about today, the focus will be the heat and humidity. If you are hitting the green or pickleball courts, the earlier the better. Temperatures climb into the mid-90s this afternoon.

Some will get cooling thundershowers this afternoon, but coverage will be lower than yesterday’s. Storms will develop along the sea breeze in south of I-10 this afternoon, so that is where the focus will be for activity for the first half of the day.

A cold front approaching from the north will develop storms in central and eastern Georgia this evening. Storms will move southwest toward our area late this evening and into the overnight hours. The best chance for strong storms will be with this line in South Georgia and the eastern Big Bend of Florida. Gusty to damaging winds up to 60 mph could bring down limbs or trees in a few spots.

Labor Day looks a little cloudier with scattered showers and storms throughout the day. Most of the day will be dry, so if you have a barbecue planned to celebrate the holiday, there is no need to cancel plans. There will be some morning showers and storms. A break midday, followed by evening thundershowers.

If you are tailgating before the Seminoles kick off at Doak Campbell on Monday, you may need to dodge some thundershowers. Scattered storms will be around between 2 and 8 p.m, so activity should start to fizzle shortly after kickoff.

The peak of hurricane season is next week. Activity is eerily quiet for what is typically the most active part of the season. High pressure and wind shear are keeping conditions quiet over the Atlantic and will remain that way through this week.

If you are heading to the coast on Sunday, there is a chance for morning showers and storms. The sea breeze will bring another chance of showers between noon and 5 p.m. Most beaches will be rain-free, but somewhere near the coast can expect a shower.
