TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A major, multiyear effort to expand Tallahassee’s trail network and improve stormwater quality is moving into its final phase.
Segment 4 of the Capital Cascades Trail is the last segment of the Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency initiative. The trail extends from the historic Leon High School in downtown Tallahassee to Lake Henrietta on Springhill Road.
The final segment includes stormwater treatment improvements for the area south of Orange Avenue and is designed to link to existing trails as well as nearby neighborhoods and businesses. The project is described as a continued investment in the city’s Southside and is intended to support walking, biking and other recreational activities.
When completed, Segment 4 will connect the Capital Cascades Trail to the St. Marks Trail, improving access from nearby neighborhoods including the Bond, Liberty Park and Callen communities. The segment also is expected to enhance connectivity along Springhill Road on the eastern side of the project and provide access to Springsax Road recreational facilities, with a connection to the Jake Gaither neighborhood.
