Four Fort Pierce officers credited with saving woman in crisis on South Causeway Bridge

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — Officers with the Fort Pierce Police Department helped save a woman who was having a mental health crisis on Wednesday.

FPPD says that four of its officers responded to the South Causeway Bridge where a woman was experiencing a mental health crisis, sitting on the outer railing of the bridge facing the water.

Two of the officers took initiative to keep her focused while assessing the situation, FPPD says. Then, immediate action became necessary, and the other two officers pulled her from the railing and back to safety.

“All four officers then worked together to protect the woman from further harm and ensure she received appropriate care. Their teamwork, compassion, and decisive action directly saved a life and exemplified their commitment to protecting our community. Outstanding work, officers,” The Fort Pierce Police Department said in a Facebook post.
