A Ford Bronco driven by a woman who was later arrested on DUI-related charges veered off the road in Daytona Beach and slammed into a parked Honda, knocking it out of its spot, NBC affiliate WFLA reported on Monday, September 7.
Police video released by Daytona Beach Police on Facebook captured both the crash and the tense encounter that followed on August 30.
Officers identified the driver as Elizabeth Pearl Boucher.
When an officer asked what happened, Boucher, 24, admitted to hitting the other car but seemed unsure of the details.
“I hit the front light of their car, but I don’t know what really happened,” she can be heard saying in the video.
The officer wasn’t buying the minimized version. “You didn’t just hit the front of the car,” he told her. “You just took the car completely off.”
As the conversation shifted from a civil matter to a criminal one, the officer read Boucher her rights and asked if she’d continue talking.
She declined, then refused to perform roadside sobriety exercises. “Nope. No exercises,” she said, before attempting to walk away. An officer stopped her immediately.
“Just because you don’t want to talk to us doesn’t mean we’re done with our investigation,” he said, as per WFLA.
Boucher later refused a requested DUI test and asked officers not to take her to jail.
“Please don’t take me to jail for this,” she pleaded.
Officers took her into custody by the end of the video.
She was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on a total bond of $500.
Volusia County inmate records listed several charges against Boucher, including DUI involving alcohol or drugs, DUI with property damage, refusal to submit to DUI testing, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, resisting an officer without violence, and battery.
Boucher is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
