GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – Construction is now underway on a major road safety project in Midway.
City leaders, along with the Florida Department of Transportation, held a groundbreaking today at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 and Dover Road.
The $8 million project will realign Dover Road with Martin Luther King Boulevard and add a new traffic light.
Crews will also add turn lane improvements, new sidewalks, better lighting, drainage upgrades and resurface the road.
Drivers can expect delays and are urged to use extra caution in the construction zone.

City leaders say the goal is to ease congestion and cut down on crashes at one of Midway’s busiest intersections.
City Councilman Charles Williams said this light is long overdue.
“It’s very important for this location because we’ve had some tragic accidents here over the years, over a number of years, and this should have been done a long time ago,” Williams said. “Let’s hope that this traffic light will prevent accidents of that sort and others of that nature from happening again.”
