Sept. 11, 2001, was a tragic day that will last in our memories. A terrorist attack on New York City’s World Trade Center leveled the Twin Towers and took the lives of nearly 3,000 people.
Twenty-five years later, South Florida will honor the lives lost and sacrifices made by first responders and other public servants on 9/11.
All events listed below are on Friday, Sept. 11.
Here’s a look at some of the events:
Coconut Grove
The city of Miami will host a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at Miami City Hall. A graduation ceremony for 44 new firefighters will immediately follow the remembrance ceremony.

Tropical Park
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office will hold a 9/11 memorial ceremony at Tropical Park. This annual event is open to the public. U.S. Southern Command, the Police Officer Assistant Trust and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue will also support the event.

Miami Dade College – Kendall
The 9/11 commemoration at Miami Dade College’s Kendall Campus will at the Fred Shaw Plaza. Students, faculty, staff and the public are welcome to pay their respects.

North Miami
The North Miami Police Department will honor the people who died on 9/11 with an event at its headquarters. Everyone is invited to observe a 9:11 a.m. 21-gun salute and a moment of silence.

Miami Gardens
Miami Gardens’ Lester Brown Park will host a remembrance ceremony for people to pay tribute to those who died on 9/11.

Miami Beach
The Miami Beach’s fire and police first responders are teaming up to host a ceremony honoring 9/11 victims that will include a moment of silence.

Doral
Everyone is welcome to pay homage at the Doral Government Center to those that were directly affected by 9/11.

Key Biscayne
An event at Key Biscayne Civic Center’s Monaco Fountain will include a moment of silence, prayer and remarks from retired New York Fire Department captain Robert Senator.

Coral Gables
Together, the Coral Gables Fire and Police Departments will host a ceremony to pay respect to the people that died on 9/11 and the workers who managed the crisis.

Miramar
This 9/11 memorial will happen at Miramar Memorial Park, which features two beams from the World Trade Center to remind visitors of the day. Light refreshments will be provided and there will be giveaways.

Pembroke Pines
Pembroke Pines Memorial Park is the site for a 9/11 memorial ceremony. Visitors can see sculptures at the park made in tribute to 9/11 victims. Air Force Col. Brett Dorey will speak and Navy Reserve Petty Officer Andrew Powell will sing the national anthem.

Fort Lauderdale
The city’s 9/11 memorial ceremony is at the Fort Lauderdale Fire & Safety Museum. The focus of the solemn event will be to remember the sacrifices made by first responders.

Hollywood
