TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – In a unanimous vote during tonight’s Tallahassee City Commission meeting, commissioners approved suspending all 150 ALPR cameras within the city.
They say this includes two different types of ALPR’s in the city, including “Flock” and “Motorola.”
Officials say the cameras will be suspended “very rapidly,” the same way the Leon County Sheriff’s Office did.
Dozens of public speakers at Wednesday’s meeting spoke out against the cameras.
The decision follows other local partners and other agencies across the state.
Commissioner Jeremy Matlow made a substitute motion to bag all the cameras starting tomorrow. It failed by a 3-2 vote.
At the last city commission meeting, Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell defended the cameras as a crime fighting tool.
Last month, Governor Ron DeSantis banned ALPRs from state roadways.
