After an impressive season-opening performance against Stanford, the Miami Hurricanes face FCS opponent Florida A&M in Week 2 of the college football season. The No. 7 Hurricanes are unsurprisingly priced as 99% favorites on Kalshi to defeat the Rattlers, but the point spread and total markets have more intrigue for prediction market traders.
The Hurricanes lost to the Rattlers 16-13 in the teams’ first meeting back in 1979. Since then, they have won the next 11 games by an average of more than 49 points and have allowed 68 total points (6.2 average) in those games.
Let’s dive into the Kalshi prices for the 13th meeting between these teams from the Sunshine State.

Why the Hurricanes could win
Price: $0.99 at Kalshi
Miami’s stars shined last week in a 45-6 win over Stanford. Quarterback Darian Mensah had a nearly perfect game in his school debut after transferring from Duke, completing 27 of 30 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns. He showed immediate chemistry with WR Malachi Toney, who hauled in 12 catches for a school-record 234 yards and three touchdowns.
The Hurricanes should not need that level of production to dispatch an FCS opponent. The program has not allowed more than 14 points against an FCS team since 2009.
Why the Rattlers could win
Price: $0.01 at Kalshi
Never say never in the wild world of college football. It may have been a different era, but the Rattlers did defeat the Hurricanes once before, and it’s always possible they could do it again.
The formula would be running the ball effectively, controlling the clock and winning the turnover battle. Those are all things they can do well against more evenly matched competition. It will be incredibly challenging against Miami, but crazier things have happened.
Miami (FL) vs. Florida A&M point spread prices on KalshiWhy the Hurricanes could cover the 57.5-point spread
Price: $0.49 at Kalshi
Miami can run up the score on the Rattlers and win by 58 points or more. The main question is whether they will be motivated to do that, or if they will let their foot off the gas and settle for an easy win, even if it means they don’t cover the spread.
One scenario where they could push the margin of victory to 58+ points is if they give their backup players a chance to play in the second half. Those who may not have many other opportunities to see the field this season could use the opportunity to display their talents and make a case for more playing time.
If that happens, Miami might put up points even after the game is well in hand. The Canes could even get a defensive touchdown (or a few) late in the game when the Rattlers are forced to be more aggressive.
Why the Rattlers could cover the 57.5-point spread
Price: $0.53 at Kalshi
As noted above, Miami has defeated Florida A&M by an average of more than 49 points in 11 games since 1980. That average is more than a touchdown lower than the 57.5-point spread in this game, and the Hurricanes have only exceeded a 57-point margin of victory in one of those 11 games.
Another factor in favor of the Rattlers covering this point spread is that Miami could be looking to focus on their rushing attack in this game. The rushing offense was the one area where Miami struggled against Stanford last week, and coach Mario Cristobal has indicated he would use this lopsided matchup to fine-tune that part of the offense.
If Miami runs the ball heavily, that will bleed more time off the clock and slow down their offense, which could limit their scoring output and give the Rattlers a chance to cover.
Miami (FL) vs. Florida A&M total points prices on KalshiThe case for Over 63.5 total points scored
Price: $0.50 at Kalshi
The last two games and four of the last seven between these teams have gone over 63.5 total points. Those seven games averaged 62.3 points, so it’s realistic that this game could see at least 64 points.
Miami should be able to score a touchdown every time it touches the ball, and there is also potential for defensive and special teams touchdowns. Against Stanford, the Hurricanes scored touchdowns on six of their first seven offensive possessions before taking their foot off the gas with 20 minutes left.
In a much easier matchup, they should be able to score even more easily and more quickly. They have a chance to score 63 points on their own, so if the Rattlers can do anything on offense, the over has a good chance of hitting.
The case for Under 63.5 total points scored
Price: $0.53 at Kalshi
The case for the Under is similar to the case for the Rattlers covering the spread. If Miami focuses more on running the ball in this game, that could lead to a faster game and keep the overall scoring down.
Miami’s offense could slow itself down even earlier this week than it did against Stanford last week. There is no benefit to the Hurricanes scoring 60+ points.
For the game to go over 63.5 points, the Rattlers probably need to score a few touchdowns, which will be a tall task against Miami’s stout defense. If Florida A&M scores fewer than 10 points, which is realistic, Miami might not be motivated to score enough points to push the total over 63.5.
How Kalshi works for college football trading
Trading sports predictions on Kalshi is not the same thing as betting on sports. Here’s a quick overview of how Kalshi works.
On Kalshi, you do not place bets “against the house.” You trade contracts with other users, where each contract represents a predicted outcome of a game or other event. When you get a prediction right, you receive $1 for every contract you bought.
Contract prices are always between $0.01 and $0.99, and the price corresponds to probability. If a contract predicting Miami to cover a 57.5-point spread trades at $0.49, the market thinks there is a 49% chance of that outcome.
You usually must make a minimum trade when you claim prediction market promos. At Kalshi, the minimum is $25, so you would need to buy 51 contracts at $0.49 each to satisfy that requirement. Your total cost for that trade would be $26.22, including a $0.90 transaction fee, and you would receive $51 and profit $24.78 if you get your prediction right.
Note: Event contract trading involves the risk of substantial loss and is not suitable for all investors. Prediction market content is not intended for individuals in jurisdictions where they are prohibited.
