JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WAND) – Itching to see some art? Visit the Jacksonville Area Museum community art project on Saturday, Sept. 19.
The project features 100 eight-by-eight-inch canvases created by area artists combined into one large art piece. The piece is part of a larger exhibit titled “The Geography of Memory: Jacksonville in Art.”
Each artist was asked to create a canvas based on an image they were given. In the end, their artwork will be combined with 99 other canvases to create a larger image to celebrate the Jacksonville area.
“Imagine a checkerboard where each square is an individual work of art, and when placed together on the board, those squares make a much bigger and recognizable work of art,” Jacksonville Area Museum board member and event coordinator Marcy Jones said.
To see “The Geography of Memory: Jacksonville in Art” and other locally made art, visit the Jacksonville Area Museum, located at 300 E. State St. The museum is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
