ORLANDO, Fla. – After a shooting near an Orlando shopping center last week, police announced that they’ve finally apprehended a suspect.
The incident was originally reported on Saturday, Sept. 5, when police responded to Colonial Drive between Primrose and Bumby.
At the time, officers noted one person was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
On Thursday evening, police announced a suspect — Justin Flores Herrera, 17 — had been arrested in connection with the shooting.
“The victim in this case was working in the area when he was approached by Herrera, who began yelling at him while displaying a firearm,” a release from Orlando police reads.

Investigators explained the victim tried to get away from Herrera, who instead continued approaching him and tried to punch him, leading to a physical fight.
“During the altercation, Herrera fired three shots, striking the victim before fleeing the scene,” the release continues.

According to detectives, law enforcement managed to develop several leads through the course of the investigation that pinned Herrera as the suspect.

Furthermore, Herrera later gave detectives information about the location of the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, which has since been recovered, police said.

Herrera faces charges of attempted first-degree murder; aggravated assault with a firearm; and possession of a firearm by a minor.
