West Palm Beach (CBS12 News) — Cardinal Newman senior Janarro Sumpter is this week’s CBS12 News Athlete of the Week after delivering a standout two-way performance for the Crusaders.
Sumpter stars at both running back and middle linebacker for head coach Jack Daniels. His versatility was on full display in Cardinal Newman’s 45-14 win over John Carroll Catholic, where he scored two rushing touchdowns and returned an interception for a pick-six.
The senior has stepped into a starting leadership role as Cardinal Newman pushes for back-to-back state title runs. Off the field, Sumpter points to his mother, Erica Parker, as his primary motivation for his success on game days.
