WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A Wellington man died days after he was struck by a car on Military Trail in West Palm Beach, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. Sept. 5 near Kelmar Drive.
Investigators identified the pedestrian as Paul Andreacchio, 65. The sheriff’s office said his next of kin has been notified.
Deputies said a 2019 Kia Optima was traveling north in the left lane on Military Trail as Andreacchio was crossing eastbound just north of Kelmar Drive.
Andreacchio was standing on the median island between the northbound and southbound turn lanes when he stumbled into the northbound left lane and into the path of the Kia, deputies said.
The driver tried to brake but could not avoid the collision, according to the sheriff’s office. Andreacchio was struck by the front left side of the car, sent into the windshield and then onto the roadway.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead Sept. 8 from injuries suffered in the crash, investigators said.
The driver and two passengers in the Kia were not hurt. No charges were listed in the sheriff’s office log entry.
The crash remains under investigation.
