Tallahassee Fire Department becomes NAEMT training center, hosts first PHTLS course

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Tallahassee Fire Department has reached a first-of-its-kind milestone in its history, becoming an approved National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) Training Center.

The designation makes Tallahassee Fire the only agency within approximately 150 miles with the capability to serve as an NAEMT Training Center.

The department’s Training Division has already begun using the new status. This week, the division hosted its first course, Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), which included hands-on trauma skill stations, practical scenarios and testing.

PHTLS is one of 18 EMS-related courses the Tallahassee Fire Department can now provide directly to its clinicians.
