The day just got a little sweeter. After a year of waiting, the locally owned dessert shop Donut Kingdom has finally opened its new storefront on 413 N. Magnolia Drive.
The family business, known for its handmade, daily assortment of fluffy pastries, closed its North Monroe Street location at the Lake Jackson Trading Post in June 2025. The newest location, housed in the Mahan Square Shopping Center, was originally anticipated to open in July 2025.
The company announced its soft opening on Facebook Sept. 10.
“The wait is finally over, and we can’t wait to welcome you through our doors! Come celebrate with us and grab your favorite donuts,” the post said.
In a conversation with the Tallahassee Democrat, Hiba Khalil of Donut Kingdom attributed the delay to permitting and contracting issues.

Donut Kingdom is now open on Magnolia Drive.
“There were just so many moving pieces that kept pushing everything back, and as a small business it was definitely frustrating because we were ready to open what felt like forever ago,” she said. “We even had customers asking us if we had given up on the location, and people were making jokes about it on Facebook because it had been so long — and honestly we were laughing right along with them because at that point we knew it had gotten ridiculous.”
But when the moment finally arrived, it meant more to Khalil than simply opening another location.
“Finally seeing those doors open after about a year and a half is such a good feeling. For me personally, seeing the smile on my parents’ faces after everything they’ve put into this location is probably the best part,” Khalil said. “Thank God we finally made it here, and we’re just really excited to finally be open and have another Donut Kingdom location serving the Tallahassee community.”
Nonetheless, fans were more than happy to hear that they could once again reunite with one of the top-rated local donut shops in the nation.
“So you are open NOW?! I know what I am having for lunch!” one user said.
Another user said, “Enjoyed the donuts today, fresh and packed with filling. Glad you are finally open.”
The local operation has two other locations in the capital city: 1705 W. Tennessee St. and 3551 S. Blair Stone Road.
“We’ve had so many customers ask us to return to the north side of town,” Hiba Khalil with Donut Kingdom said in a previous interview with the Tallahassee Democrat. “While Magnolia isn’t quite as far north as some hoped, it’s definitely a step in that direction and better aligned with where we see the most demand.”
Khalil said the newlocation seems promising for satisfying its loyal clientele, who’ve been on this sweet ride with them since launching in 2009.
Their goal remains “to serve Tallahassee, put smiles on people’s faces and deliver the best donuts in Tallahassee.”
