A shooting and chase ended with one person hospitalized and several people in custody Thursday night, Hallandale Beach Police said.

The incident began when officers responded to the 500 block of Northwest 5th Street after receiving a ShotSpotter alert for possible gunfire.

As officers were responding, they spotted a vehicle believed to be connected that was speeding away with its headlights off, and when officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, resulting in a pursuit, police said.

The pursuit continued outside Hallandale Beach and two people fled on foot, with one taken into custody following a foot pursuit and the other found in Fort Lauderdale with the help of a police K-9, officials said.

Eventually four people were taken into custody who were associated with the vehicle.

One of the people taken into custody was found with gunshot wounds to the arm and hip/groin area, police said.

That person was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No officers were injured.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting and pursuit remain under investigation, police said.
