A convicted drug trafficker is missing after failing to report to a federal correctional facility in Georgia following a furlough transfer from Miami, authorities said.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, at approximately 9 p.m. on Friday, 47-year-old Sherman Kemp was discovered missing after he failed to report to the adjacent satellite camp at the Federal Correctional Institution in Jesup, Georgia, following a furlough transfer from FCI Miami.
The U.S. Marshals Service, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies were notified, and an internal investigation was launched.
Authorities said Kemp is serving an aggregate 324-month sentence imposed in Maryland and Pennsylvania for conspiracy to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine, and conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin.
