MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Martin County is now home to the world’s longest Cuban sandwich after Old Havana Cafe and House of Hope built a 400-foot-long sandwich Saturday morning in Palm City.

The massive sandwich broke the previous world record held by Tampa.

A large crowd turned out to watch volunteers, and sandwich builders assemble the record-breaking Cuban sandwich and support the fundraiser.

Martin County Commissioner Edward Ciampi was also on hand to complete the final measurement confirming the sandwich reached 400 feet.

The event raised more than $30,000 for House of Hope, a Martin County nonprofit that provides food assistance, job training, education and other services aimed at helping local families become more self-sufficient.

Organizers said the event was about more than setting a world record. It was also designed to bring the community together while raising awareness and support for House of Hope’s mission.
