Although the earthquakes in Colombia and Venezuela may have faded from the headlines, local efforts to help victims remain front and center. Last week, two events brought Key Biscayners together for good causes.
Mahjong for Colombia at D’Lite Bistro & Bakery welcomed players of all skill levels for a morning of fun, games and fundraising for victims of the Aug. 10 earthquakes. The event was organized by D’Lite Bistro owner Alexandra Zurek; María Fernanda Quintero and Estefanía Diaz-Balart of the Key Mahjong Club; and Valerie Hernandez of Pinkpineapple Beachwear. It included spirited games and lessons for beginners.
At Saturday’s Key Biscayne Farmers Market, Aguamiel, the popular specialty coffee and matcha spot inside the Community Center, celebrated its fifth anniversary by helping victims of the June 24 earthquakes that ravaged parts of Venezuela. The business donated a portion of the day’s proceeds to relief efforts.
