TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -Several hundred people in the mountain biking community gathered in Tallahassee this weekend to kick off the 34th annual Florida State Championship Series.
The two-day event at Tom Brown Park, hosted by Gone Riding, featured cyclists ages 3 to 70, all racing cross-country through the woods.
Race Director David Berger says they choose some of the best places across the state to host these races, and they start in Tallahassee because it’s one of the best.
Berger says bikers will spend the next eight weeks traveling across Florida to compete in the series, with about 80 percent of the same people traveling each week.
He says the biking community is something special, bringing people from all over the state together.
“We’ve been doing this for 34 years, so we hope to keep going,” Berger said. “We’ve seen three generations sometimes of racers who started out in the kids race, had children, and then sometimes their children have children, so it’s really a family fun atmosphere.”
The next races will take bikers to Jacksonville, Deerfield, Ocala, Lakeland, Alachua, Alva, and Hialeah.
