FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — More details have emerged regarding the Fort Pierce man who was found with several military-grade explosives inside of his home.

According to the arrest affidavit, SLCSO deputies served Keith Anthony Morrone with a temporary risk protection order at his Balsam Drive residence in Fort Pierce.

Morrone allowed deputies to search his vehicle and his residence, where they found green wooden case with 7 items that resembled military style hand grenades. Five of the items were deemed to be more consistent with flash bangs.

After everyone — including Morrone — evacuated the residence, the SLCSO bomb team was called in to handle the situation.

While talking with deputies, Morrone admitted to modifying the grenades, according to the affidavit. When asked if there was anything inside of the grenades, Morrone said “I don’t know, I don’t think there’s anything in there,” SLCSO says.

The explosives were eventually safely removed from the house, but another search of the home discovered one foot of canon fuse connected to a small glass container containing black powder, creating a home-made destructive device.

Based on the evidence, Morrone was charged with 8 counts of making, possessing, throwing, projecting, placing, or discharging any destructive device or attempting to do so. He was brought to the St. Lucie County Jail.
