For anyone who’s ever wanted to pick up a brush and see where it leads, the Key Biscayne Community Center is offering a five-week art class for adults 55 and older, taught by artist and instructor Toa Castellanos.

The class, designed for beginners through advanced artists, meets from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., on Tuesdays starting Sept. 15 through Oct. 13 and Oct. 20 through Dec. 1.

Cost is $60 for members and $72 for non-members. Registration is available at the front desk.

Castellanos was born in Santiago de Cuba and moved to the United States in 1961. She studied art in Michigan and at Notre Dame University in Indiana before relocating to Cali, Colombia, in 1974, where she began her career as an artist and printer, working alongside Pedro Alcántara and Fabio Daza.

She now works in Yovani Bauta’s studio and has exhibited in Colombia, Cuba and the United States.

She has lived and worked in Miami since 2000.
