ORLANDO, Fla. – SeaWorld Orlando’s Howl-O-Scream is built for people who want their Halloween experience to go beyond decorations and costumes.
The event combines haunted houses, scare zones, themed food and drinks, live entertainment, and plenty of opportunities to be scared along the way. With five haunted houses and six scare zones, there is a lot to see — and knowing what to prioritize can make a big difference.
After spending a night at Howl-O-Scream, here’s what stood out and what I would recommend knowing before you go.
Howl-O-Scream haunted houses
The haunted houses are the heart of Howl-O-Scream, and this year’s lineup includes a mix of original concepts and a house based on a well-known horror franchise.
One of the biggest strengths of the lineup is the variety. Each house creates its own world, with different settings, characters and styles of scares.
I Know What You Did Last Summer: The Final Catch
Fans of I Know What You Did Last Summer can step into the world of Southport and come face to face with the Fisherman.
The house brings the horror franchise into a walk-through experience, with guests moving through the seaside town as the events of that fateful summer come back to life.
The Fisherman is never far away, creating an experience built around the anticipation of when — and where — he’ll appear.
If you’re a fan of the franchise, this is an obvious house to put toward the top of your list.
I took on the Scream Cam inside the house, and my reactions say it all: The Fisherman and I still have some unfinished business after the number of times he caught me off guard.
Everything Must Stay
Everything Must Stay takes a familiar suburban setting and turns it into something much more sinister.
The house centers on a home that has remained on the market for 6 years, with potential buyers repeatedly fleeing after encountering things they cannot explain.
That premise gives the house an unsettling quality before things begin to go very wrong. Instead of entering a traditional haunted attraction, you’re essentially walking into a suburban open house that quickly becomes a nightmare.
The Rave Yard
The Rave Yard combines two things that don’t normally go together: a cemetery and an underground rave.
The result is a neon-lit world where the dead have come back to party. Tombstones, mausoleums, music and undead characters come together to create one of the more visually distinctive houses at Howl-O-Scream.
The combination of horror and a party atmosphere makes this one particularly different from a traditional haunted house.
This one had me dancing along with the rave one second and jumping out of my skin the next when an unexpected scare came out of nowhere.
The Dark Net
The Dark Net takes Howl-O-Scream into a futuristic world where an energy crisis has pushed society to the brink.
Guests enter a city where desperate cyborgs have discovered a disturbing new energy source: blood.
The house’s neon-lit, futuristic setting gives it a completely different look from the other attractions. Machines, cybernetic creatures and humans collide in a dark world where survival has taken a sinister turn.
If you like science fiction mixed with horror, The Dark Net is one to prioritize.
The Crawl Space
The Crawl Space takes guests underground into a forgotten network of tunnels that was abandoned following a catastrophic containment failure.
The further you go, the more the environment suggests that whatever was left behind didn’t simply disappear. Something has been growing in the darkness.
Of all five haunted houses, The Crawl Space was my favorite of the night.
The timing of the scares was particularly effective, but what really made the house stand out was everything hanging from the ceiling. It created an unpredictable environment where you never quite knew what was going to move, touch you or become part of the next scare.
The combination of timing, set design and things happening above you made The Crawl Space the house I would recommend prioritizing if you’re trying to decide which haunted house to visit first.
Which Howl-O-Scream haunted house is the best?
Everyone will have a different answer, but The Crawl Space was my favorite haunted house at Howl-O-Scream.
The five houses offer enough variety that your favorite will probably depend on the type of horror you enjoy.
I Know What You Did Last Summer: The Final Catch is the obvious choice for fans of the franchise, while The Rave Yard and The Dark Net offer particularly distinctive worlds.
But if you’re looking for a house with strong timing, atmosphere and unexpected scares, don’t skip The Crawl Space.
Don’t skip the scare zones!
The six scare zones are a major part of SeaWorld’s Howl-O-Scream and deserve more than a quick walk-through between haunted houses. Each area has its own atmosphere, characters and style of entertainment, and some of the best moments come from stopping to take it all in.
One of my favorites was the all-new Just One More Chapter, which also appears to be a social media favorite. The scare zone brings the romantasy and BookTok worlds into the horror landscape, surrounding guests with toxic obsession, masked figures and twisted love stories. Set in an enchanted garden filled with gothic beauty and cursed romance, the area creates the feeling that every path leads deeper into the darkness. The creatures are captivating, but they’re also dangerous — making it difficult to know whether you should stop and admire the setting or keep moving.
Trailer Park Tragedy, a returning scare zone, offered a completely different kind of experience. Set in a backwoods community on the edge of nowhere, the area is left in ruins after something wicked goes down. The residents have become territorial and terrifying, protecting their home with rusted tools, snarling beasts and a twisted sense of justice.
The characters in Trailer Park Tragedy delivered some of the best interactions of the night. Their comments kept the area entertaining even when they weren’t actively trying to scare guests, adding humor to the tension.
That balance of horror and humor is what makes the Howl-O-Scream scare zones so much fun. They aren’t only about jump scares. Sometimes the entertainment comes from watching the characters, listening to their interactions and becoming part of the world around you. Just remember: You might stumble into Trailer Park Tragedy — but you may not stumble back out.
Howl-O-Scream food and drinks

The food is another reason to give yourself time to explore the event.
Howl-O-Scream features themed food areas throughout the park, with options ranging from burgers and chicken nuggets to specialty drinks and other Halloween-inspired dishes.
One of the biggest hits of the night was the Philly cheesesteak. We are still talking about it and wanted to go back for another one.
We also tried the Fun House Flesh Bites, essentially red chicken nuggets, which were surprisingly good. The Ghost Pepper sauce was fantastic. My friend actually stole it from me to finish it.
We shared a themed burger and fries as well, and there were plenty of specialty drinks available throughout the event.
If you’re a foodie, don’t treat the food as an afterthought. There is enough variety that you can make the food stops part of the overall Howl-O-Scream experience.
For guests who want to sample several of the event’s food and drink offerings, Howl-O-Scream also offers tasting lanyards.
Guests can choose between the Spirits & Bites lanyard and the Mocktails & Bites lanyard, depending on whether they want alcoholic beverages included.
This option gives guests 10 total punches to use on eligible food and beverage offerings throughout the event.
There is also a Mocktails & Bites 5-Punch Lanyard. This is a good option for guests who want to focus on the food and non-alcoholic drinks while exploring Howl-O-Scream.
If you’re planning to try several dishes and drinks during your visit, a tasting lanyard can be a convenient way to build food stops into your night. Just make sure to review the eligible items and current terms before purchasing.

The live show is worth your time
The live entertainment ended up being one of my favorite parts of the night.
We only had time to see one show, Monster Stomp, a modern rock-and-rhythm production inspired by the legend of Jack the Ripper. Set in the misty streets of Victorian-era London, the show combines electrifying percussion, dancing and singing to create a performance that is both darkly entertaining and energetic.
The production showcased an impressive amount of talent and creativity, offering a welcome change of pace from navigating haunted houses and scare zones.
Even if you’re primarily visiting Howl-O-Scream for the scares, check the entertainment schedule before you arrive and make time for at least one live show. Monster Stomp offers a chance to sit back, take a break and enjoy a different kind of experience.
Are Howl-O-Scream front of the line fear passes worth it?
If you want to experience as much of Howl-O-Scream as possible, consider getting a Front of Line Fear Pass.
We used the Front of Line Fear Pass during our visit, and our longest wait was about 15 minutes.
Of course, wait times can vary depending on the night, crowd levels and when you visit, so don’t assume every night will have 15-minute waits. But having the Front of Line Fear Pass allowed us to spend less time standing in lines and more time experiencing the attractions.
For us, it was worth it.
If you’re trying to visit all five haunted houses, explore the scare zones, eat and see a show in one night, reducing your time in line can make it much easier to fit everything in.
If you’re deciding whether to purchase one, consider how much you want to accomplish during your visit. For someone who wants to experience as many attractions as possible in a single night, the time saved can be valuable.
Is Howl-O-Scream worth it?
For the money, Howl-O-Scream offers a lot to experience in one night.
Between the five haunted houses, six scare zones, themed food and drinks and live entertainment, there is enough variety that you aren’t spending the entire evening doing the same thing.
What stood out most during our visit was the creativity. The event isn’t dependent entirely on familiar horror properties. The original haunted houses and scare zones create their own worlds, and the theming throughout the event makes the night feel like more than a collection of haunted houses.
If you’re planning a Halloween night in Orlando and enjoy haunted houses, horror, themed entertainment and good food, Howl-O-Scream is worth putting on your list.
