Oviedo asking residents to remove ‘homemade’ bridges over Sweetwater Creek after debris builds up
OVIEDO, Fla. —
The City of Oviedo is asking anyone with a homemade bridge over Sweetwater Creek to remove it immediately.

The city said its Public Works crews were inspecting the creek on Tuesday morning and found “at least three homemade bridges spanning from one side of the creek to the other.”
Officials said debris collects around and under the bridge, creating a dam effect that results in flooding and flood damage.
“Building a bridge is a direct violation of the NFIP/FEMA code and the City’s Stormwater code,” the city said in a Facebook post.
The area was hit with heavy rain on Monday afternoon. More is expected throughout the week.
