TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Michael Alford is no longer serving as Florida State University’s vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics, according to the university.
FSU announced the change in athletics leadership in a statement Monday.
During FSU football head coach Mike Norvell’s weekly presser, President Richard McCullough said Alford was “dismissed without cause.”
Alford also addressed his departure from the role in a statement on social media later that afternoon, saying that while he will leave it to others to provide thoughts on their accomplishments and challenges, he is “proud of what we were able to achieve together.”
His full statement read:
Board of Trustees Chairman Peter Collins said changes like this are “never easy, but sometimes necessary.”
“We have made significant investments and structural changes in our athletic program and Seminole Boosters over the past few years, but more are needed,” he said. “This step begins the next phase of restructuring that the University must commit to in order to compete in this era of college sports. The President and the Board are in lockstep on the mission and what the results must be.”
The university statement went on to reveal that President McCullough has appointed Bruce Warwick to serve in the interim director of athletics role “while a national search for a permanent successor is conducted.”
Warwick currently serves as senior associate athletics director, per the university.
Alford began his career in the Director of Athletics role back in 2021. Previously, he served as president and CEO of Seminole Boosters since 2020, WCTV previously reported.
