A man is behind bars after he was accused of molesting a 4-year-old girl inside a Lowe’s store in Hialeah, police said.

Jose Cremades, 65, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12, Miami-Dade jail records showed.

According to an arrest report, Hialeah Police officers responded to a reported sexual battery involving a child at the Lowe’s at 1650 W. 37th Street on Saturday.

Officers met with a mother who said she and her 4-year-old were in the store at the cash register when the girl briefly left her immediate sight and walked toward a nearby clothing stand.

The woman said she called out for the girl but couldn’t see her, and a few seconds later she saw the girl come running toward her.

She said she also saw an older man exit from behind the same display where the victim had been, and said the man looked in her direction, lowered his head and walked away, the report said.

The mother said she initially didn’t believe anything had happened and they were picked up by the girl’s father, but while the girl was being placed in a car seat she said an old man in the store had touched her privates, the report said.

A sergeant spoke with the girl, who said the man had lifted her skirt and touched her private area over the shorts she was wearing under the skirt, the report said.

Police reviewed surveillance footage from the store that showed a man standing behind the merchandise display and looking in the woman’s direction before he moved farther behind the display and crouched down, the report said.

After he was obscured for about a minute, the man was seen standing up, looking in the mother’s direction again before crouching back down behind the display, the report said.

When the girl ran toward her mother, the video showed the man stand up and walk toward the rear of the store, the report said.

Surveillance footage also showed the man walking behind two other girls as they moved through the store, and showed his crouching near merchandise and looking through a display where the two girls were in an aisle, the report said.

Police identified the suspect as Cremades, and he was taken into custody during a traffic stop, the report said.

Cremades was arrested and booked into jail. On Wednesday, he appeared before a judge, who ordered him held without bond, while noting he also has an immigration hold.
