‘Inspire the future’: New fence mural unveiled at W.T. Moore Elementary

  • September 16, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – After a heartbreaking removal of artistic crosswalks on Dempsey Mayo Road, the Knight Creative Communities Institute (KCCI) unveiled a new public art project at W.T. Moore Elementary.

The initiative was a partnership with KCCI, W.T. Moore Elementary and Westminster Oaks.

“Connected Communities, Inspire the Future” is the theme for this new collaborative fence mural as local leaders say this is a new beginning for local art.

Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey also presented an official proclamation to honor this collaborative effort.

“When we work together, and we’re creative together, John. Then we have the opportunity to literally do anything we want. We can move mountains, and when you combine that with art, culture, science, wow,” Dailey said.

Dailey also recognized Sept. 15-30th of 2026, as KCCI placemaking week as the organization commits to incorporating creative placemaking, like this mural, into Tallahassee communities.

W.T. Moore Elementary Principal Billy Millard said building community identities in public spaces like this is important.

“It’s just a reminder that good things happen in our community, and in our schools. And being able to see how we can build together, I think, is really important. So having the relationship with a retirement home and the school, you’re looking across the spectrum of people,” Millard said.

Dailey said this is just one project of many more to come with the work that KCCI is doing and reinforcing the importance of public art.

“Public art is very important to the citizens and to the community. KCCI does a fantastic job under the leadership of Betsy Couch, making sure that we stay on top of these public art projects and keep moving forward,” Dailey said.

The mayor further said that more art should be appearing throughout the remaining year and into 2027.
