Inter Miami and Cruz Azul have faced each other only once before, so the 2026 Campeones Cup will mark just the second chapter in the history between the two clubs.
Their only previous meeting took place on Matchday 1 of the 2023 Leagues Cup, a game that ended in a 2-1 victory for Inter Miami. Robert Taylor opened the scoring for the American side, while Uriel Antuna tied the game for La Máquina.
However, that match ended up being remembered for Lionel Messi. The Argentine came on in the final stretch and scored a free kick that decided the match, also netting his first goal in an Inter Miami jersey.
More than three years later, the two teams meet again, but this time the circumstances are different: a championship is on the line.
Cruz Azul will look to secure its first victory over the Garzas and even the head-to-head record, while Miami will aim to maintain its perfect record against the Mexican team and turn their second matchup into another win.
