A 43-year-old man was arrested Sept. 15 on drug and other charges after Port St. Lucie Police reported finding a dead man in an apartment with cocaine and a syringe nearby, according to records obtained Sept. 16.

Danilo Jaramillo, of the 900 block of Southwest Longfellow Road in Port St. Lucie, was jailed on at least five felony drug charges, three felony counts of possession of a weapon or ammunition by a felon and a single misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, affidavits state.

The arrest came after police Sept. 13 investigated an overdose death at an apartment in the 700 block of Southeast Collins Lane just east of Florida’s Turnpike off Becker Road.

Police reported finding a syringe with blood on it next to the deceased, identified as Miqueias Oliverira Silva, and a bag of cocaine nearby.

Silva’s neighbor, who called 911, told police he last saw Silva getting out of a black sport utility vehicle and entering his home.

Police reviewed Silva’s phone and reported finding messages suggesting drug deals with Jaramillo, who owns a black Kia sport utility vehicle. The first contact was in August.

Investigators used Silva’s phone to arrange a drug deal with Jaramillo, who was detained while entering the apartment complex in the 700 block of Southeast Collins Lane.

In Jaramillo’s vehicle, police reported finding a small amount of fentanyl, an extremely potent synthetic opioid linked to many deaths in Florida and across the country, and cash.

Police also searched Jaramillo’s home and reported finding items including $17,715 in cash, cocaine and three firearms.

When police knocked on the door, Jaramillo’s wife and her children came out. She told police she didn’t know her husband was involved in drugs, saying she last saw him with narcotics about eight months earlier.

Jaramillo said anything illegal in the home was his. He told police he wanted an attorney for advice.
