With colorful pinwheels marking personal connections to Alzheimer’s disease, community members in Jacksonville and New Bern will soon have a chance to step up for research through the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

Two walks are scheduled in the area. The Jacksonville walk is Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Commons Recreation Complex. The New Bern walk is Saturday, Oct. 17 at Union Point Park. Check-in for the events starts at 9 a.m.

Organizers are aiming to raise a combined $130,000 through the two walks. “We are looking to raise $70,000 with the New Bern walk and $60,000 with the Jacksonville walk. The money raised goes to vital global research to help battle and to find solutions to prevent and to cure the disease,” said Georgiana Bowman, a member of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s New Bern Leadership Team.

Participation in the walk is free, but walkers are asked to make a personal donation or raise money.
