FDOT plans Crawfordville Road expansion, accepting public feedback

  • September 18, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is listening to feedback from neighbors on a future project in southern Leon County to widen a major roadway.

FDOT hosted a hybrid public meeting regarding the proposal at the Woodville Community Center on Thursday.

The plan is to widen almost two miles of U.S. 319 (Crawfordville Road) from two lanes to four. The road is a major artery for people to travel to and from work in the capital city.

The stretch of 319 that will be widened runs south of the intersection at State Road 61 to L.L. Wallace Road.

FDOT spokesperson Ian Satter said it is important to hear comments from the community impacted and let them know where the department is in the process.

“I think what’s important here obviously is just looking at the capacity improvements that will be there that will reduce congestion and improve safety,” Satter said. “That’s always the most important thing of all of our projects are those two components.”

Final design work for the project is expected to wrap up by mid-2027, with construction expected to start in 2028.

Satter said they are going into this with the intent to keep impacts low for traffic in the area, with two lanes of traffic open throughout construction and any closures limited to overnight hours.

Cheryl Collier-Brown, a U.S. 319 commuter and one of the meeting attendees, said that she believes the project will have a positive impact on the area.

“Whatever happens, everyone is going to benefit from it,” Collier-Brown said. “Those who live in this area, those of us that come out in this area. It’s a win-win for everybody, more so for the citizens that live out here. But when coming to visit, we can feel safer and don’t have to be on pins and needles.”

Public comment is also welcome on FDOT’s website and will be open for two weeks.
