Coffee is one of those things we consume so automatically, so thoughtlessly, that we forget it can actually be remarkable. We don’t always deserve good coffee. And yet, against all odds, good coffee keeps showing up anyway.

Royal Diaspora Coffee is a Black-owned specialty roaster out of Tampa that’s been quietly doing things right for a while now. They had a brick-and-mortar spot on E. Busch Blvd in Tampa that’s since closed, which, yes, is the kind of news that makes your stomach drop if you were a regular. But here’s the thing: they didn’t just disappear into the ether like so many beloved local spots before them. Instead, they adapted, they partnered, and now they’ve brought their whole operation to St. Pete, because apparently resilience is also on the menu.

In a popular pop-up that runs through next weekend, Royal Diaspora has taken up residence at Delicious Interactive Wine Bar (420 22nd St. S), each Thursday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. That’s not a one-weekend tease. That’s a full, sustained commitment, and frankly, it’s exactly the kind of behavior we should be rewarding with our weekend alarm clocks and our discretionary income.

The spread includes specialty lattes, matcha, and a brand-new breakfast menu featuring a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant served with house-made honey butter. House-made honey butter. On a croissant. You’re going to want to sit with that sentence for a moment. And then you’re going to want to get in your car.

Royal Diaspora has also been making moves beyond the pop-up circuit, partnering with Real Brandon Social to release limited-edition bottled drinks, including flavors like a Sweet Potato Pie Latte and a Brown Sugar Latte, with pickup spots scattered across Tampa Bay. These are the kinds of flavors that make you feel like someone actually thought about what you might want to drink, and not some random flavor names pulled from a trend report.

So if you’ve been sleeping on Royal Diaspora, this week and next week is your chance to fix that. Show up, buy the coffee, eat the croissant, and tip your barista like you actually mean it. They closed a storefront and came back stronger. The least we can do is show up on a Thursday.
