TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Drivers headed down west Tennessee Street on Friday might have done a double take.
Commuters spotted new speed limit markings painted on the road, except the number painted on the asphalt didn’t match the posted speed limit sign right beside it.
The posted metal sign clearly reads 30 miles per hour, but right next to it, the white paint on the road reads 35.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) confirmed it was a contractor’s mistake.
Crews were supposed to paint a 30, not a 35.
“Florida DOT is adding pavement markings along this heavily traveled corridor on Tennessee Street to improve safety and remind motorists to follow the speed limit,” FDOT said in a statement.

As one of the busiest stretches in Tallahassee and right off of Florida State University’s campus, thousands of students and commuters are driving this route every day.
FDOT said contractors will be out there overnight to buff out the mistake and repaint the correct speed limit to minimize traffic delays.
