ORLANDO, Fla. – A maintenance worker with the University of Central Florida was arrested after he traveled to meet someone he thought was a 13-year-old boy — only to find out it was actually an undercover detective, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
In a release, deputies said the incident happened on Thursday, when detectives took the man — identified as John Charles Flannigan — into custody.
Now, Flannigan faces charges of traveling to meet a minor; solicitation of a minor; transmission of harmful material to minors; and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
“Detectives believe there may be additional victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward,” the release reads.
Anyone with information that could help detectives in this investigation is urged to call the OCSO’s non-emergency line at (407) 836-4357.
UCF provided News 6 with the following statement:
“UCF has zero tolerance for conduct of this nature and took immediate action after becoming aware of the arrest. The individual has been placed on unpaid leave as the university works to pursue separation.
We commend law enforcement for their swift action and continued work to keep our communities and citizens safe.”
