A Broward County Public Schools bookkeeper was arrested Wednesday after nearly $5,000 in cash she received through fundraising and other school-related activities was determined to be unaccounted for, according to court records.
Shauntay Cunningham-Poole, 56, of Fort Lauderdale, has been a school district employee since 1995 and is currently the bookkeeper at McArthur High School, a spokesperson for the district said in an email Friday.
Between September 2025 and this February, Poole was repeatedly questioned about “discrepancies” related to 10 outstanding cash deposits totaling $4,491 she received as the bookkeeper for one of the district schools and “the sole individual responsible for collecting the cash funds,” a probable cause affidavit said.
The cash deposits were supposed to be taken to the cash-transit company Brink’s, which would then be deposited into the school’s JPMorgan Chase bank account, the probable cause affidavit said. Poole allegedly did not provide documentation to account for the missing cash, and investigators could not find records that showed the cash was ever collected by Brink’s or deposited directly into the school bank account.
“Despite these efforts, no evidence indicated that the cash deposits accepted by [Poole] were ever processed, posted, or reconciled in the district’s financial records,” the affidavit said.
When a Broward County Schools Police investigator contacted Poole, she allegedly “declined to provide a reason(s) for the missing funds,” according to the affidavit.
Since November 1995, Poole has worked as the bookkeeper, a budget support specialist and a data processing clerk at Whiddon-Rogers Education Center in Fort Lauderdale, as well as an office manager at Dave Thomas Education Center in Coconut Creek, Nadine Drew, a school district spokesperson, said in an email. Poole has worked as the bookkeeper at McArthur High School since July 2025.
She faces one count of grand theft of more than $750 but Less than $5,000, which is a third-degree felony, court records show. She has been released from jail after posting bond.
Poole has not yet entered a plea to the charge. Attorney information was not available Friday.
