New touchscreens and tap-to-pay capabilities are designed to make it faster and easier to pay for parking at the airport.

TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa International Airport is helping drivers pay for parking faster and easier than ever.

The airport is installing new ticket dispensers at all parking garage entrances and new touchscreen payment machines at all exits. They’ll be found in the Short Term, Long Term, and Economy garages.

Among other upgrades, the payment screens will now accept tap-to-pay with cards and with mobile technology such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

“This upgrade of the ticketing equipment in our parking garages is part of our continuous efforts to enhance our guest experience,” said TPA Vice President of Concessions and Commercial Parking Laurie Noyes.

Entering and leaving the parking garages will also become easier for travelers who pre-book parking at TPA. A license plate reader will scan the plate on an incoming car and, if it matches, automatically open the gate. This eliminates the need for drivers to scan a QR code as they come in. When the car exits the garage, the plate will be scanned again and the exit gate automatically opened.

Airport officials say it will take a few weeks to swap out all 18 ticket dispensers and 18 payment machines. They expect to complete installation in October.
