ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A new traffic pattern is now in place at the intersections of State Road 16 with Stratton Boulevard and Industry Center Road in St. Johns County.
The changes replace unsignalized left turns from Stratton Boulevard and Industry Center Road with signalized U-turns. The design, known as a Restricted Crossing U-Turn, or RCUT, is intended to improve traffic flow and reduce potential conflict points.
Drivers will also encounter additional turn lanes, new traffic signals and updated pavement markings to guide them through the intersections. Two new pedestrian crosswalks have been added, including one at the eastern signalized U-turn.
The improvements are part of an intersection project led by St. Johns County Public Works and funded in part through a Florida Department of Transportation grant. An FDOT Intersection Control Evaluation study identified the RCUT design as the most efficient option for the intersections.
Drivers are encouraged to use caution, follow the new signs and signals, and allow extra time while adjusting to the traffic pattern. St. Johns County has also released a video featuring Public Works Project Manager Chris Gatchell explaining how to navigate the updated intersections.
