FIU Survivor is building momentum for Season 2 with Episode 2, “Arts vs. Smarts — Winner Take All,” a student-led competition that tests creativity, logic, teamwork and strategy across the Florida International University campus.

Following a September 16 watch party that drew approximately 40 RSVPs for the Season 2 premiere, the production is preparing its next community viewing event for Wednesday, September 23. Additional watch-party details will be announced through FIU Survivor’s social media channels. Students and supporters will have another opportunity to gather, cheer for their favorite contestants and experience the competition together.

Season 2 builds on the show’s 2024 debut, which divided contestants into the “Hurricanes” and “Sunshines” tribes based on contrasting outlooks and personalities. This season’s “Arts vs. Smarts” theme shifts the focus to creative and pragmatic thinking, with campus scavenger hunts and challenges designed to engage both sides of the brain.

FIU Survivor plans to cast 14 to 16 contestants, including approximately two to three graduate students. Prospective cast members begin with a video audition and may advance to an in-person interview.

The production is also recruiting crew members to help develop and execute challenges, capture footage and expand the show’s presence on campus and throughout South Florida. Created by Jessie Honeycut and Catalina Rodriguez, FIU Survivor is growing its audience through Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

According to FIU Survivor President Melanie Bello she finds that “the beauty about Survivor is that it is a bunch of passionate individuals coming together to put their best into a shared vision.” Ms. Bello goes on to say, “We have built a community that goes outside of just making a reality t.v. show.”

The show uses contestant profiles, interactive questions and live-streamed or recorded video to invite viewers to choose a tribe, follow the competition and connect with the cast. Its YouTube channel currently features 12 videos spanning Season 1 and the opening episodes of Season 2.

“Our organization has grown so much and I think it is a testament of all the hard work we as a team put in to make the best of the best and we only hope to grow,” said Bello.

Students interested in auditioning, joining the production crew or receiving updates about the September 23 watch party can follow FIU Survivor on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
