Video captures Cape Coral hit-and-run that left camper van undrivable
A hit-and-run early Monday morning on Southeast Tenth Place in Cape Coral left a camper van and the curb damaged, with the chaotic scene caught on camera by the van’s owner.
The crash left deep tire marks and a smashed curb, leading to the camper van parked on Southeast Tenth Place. The driver reportedly attempted to leave the scene after the crash, off Cape Coral Parkway.
Charles Peterson, owner of Evergreen Tattoos, was working late when he heard the commotion.
“Me and my client heard a bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, like a car accident outside,” Peterson said.
When he and his client went outside, they saw a truck stuck in a ditch.
“We both got up and looked, and we saw a truck stuck in a ditch,” Peterson said.
The crash, which happened at 2 a.m., involved a truck stuck by the sidewalk. Video footage shows someone trying to push the truck out before the driver reversed into the camper van.
“That’s why I started filming. Because I thought it was so funny. I’m like, you’re not going to push that truck,” Peterson said.
This is not the first time Peterson has dealt with vehicle-related issues. Last year, someone stole his truck and crashed it in front of a home.
“That’s why I’m driving my van, and the guy just hit my van last night, and now my van is not drivable. I rode my bike to this interview. Yeah, I had really bad luck, I guess,” Peterson said.
The camper van’s doors no longer open, and it is undrivable according to Peterson. Cape Coral police confirmed they responded to the hit-and-run at the location. Gulf Coast News is working to confirm more information.
