Fort Lauderdale has received more than 20 inches of rain this September — surpassing the city’s all-time record for the month, the National Weather Service in Miami said Wednesday.

The previous record for the month was set 28 years ago in September 1998, when Fort Lauderdale received 18.4 inches of rain.

As of early Wednesday, the city had received 20.75 inches for the month, more than double what is considered average, or 8.61 inches.

The record-setting total is bound to keep rising.

“Additional rainfall is possible later today & over the next several days before September ends,” the weather service said.

The weather service says some parts of South Florida could see as much as 8 to 10 inches of rain this week, as storms keep pummeling the region with downpours.
