A Fort Lauderdale woman is in jail in Fort Pierce after deputies said she stole a Broward Sheriff’s Office marked patrol car and abandoned it on Interstate 95 in St. Lucie County on Tuesday night.

Shannon Marie Dillon, 42, faces two charges in Broward County and seven charges in St. Lucie County, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

Just after 9 p.m., the BSO car was stolen from the public parking lot area of BSO’s Public Safety Building in the 2600 block of West Broward Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, spokesperson Gerdy St. Louis said in an email.

The Sheriff’s Office has not provided additional information about how the car was stolen.

“Internal Affairs is investigating the incident to determine exactly what happened and if any agency policy was violated,” BSO spokesperson Veda Coleman-Wright said in an email.

At 9:40 p.m., St. Lucie County deputies, Port St. Lucie Police officers and Florida Highway Patrol troopers were alerted that the car was traveling north on I-95 near the Gatlin Boulevard exit, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.

They found the patrol car abandoned on the off-ramp there and Dillon “in the area” wearing a ballistic vest with BSO insignia displayed on it, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said.

Shortly before 10 p.m., at least three St. Lucie County deputies and a police K-9 found Dillon on the I-95 ramp and ordered her to lie on the ground as they came toward her with their guns drawn, a clip of body-worn camera footage shared on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook shows. A deputy then put her in handcuffs.

Dillon as of Wednesday afternoon is held in the St. Lucie County jail with a bond of more than $100,000, jail records show. In that county, she faces charges including driving with a suspended license, grand theft of law enforcement equipment, unlawful possession of four or fewer identification items, and drug- and weapon-related charges.

Dillon will face charges in Broward County including grand theft of law enforcement equipment from an authorized emergency vehicle and grand theft, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said.
