UCF will be without a couple of starters when the Knights host TCU on Saturday.
Linebacker Lewis Carter and wide receiver Duane Thomas Jr. were listed as out on the initial Big 12 availability report released Wednesday.
Carter started the first three games and leads the team with 24 tackles and two quarterback hurries, while Thomas, who was the team’s top receiver last season, hasn’t played this season while dealing with an undisclosed injury he suffered toward the end of fall camp.
Tackett Curtis has started alongside Carter through the first three games, with Jayden Jennings and Jahleel Culbreath also seeing snaps at linebacker.
Ric’Darious Farmer has stepped up in Thomas’ absence, totaling 80 receiving yards on 7 catches.
Also listed as out for this weekend’s game was offensive guard Owen Spell, who has been dealing with plantar fasciitis, according to coach Scott Frost. Connor Meadows replaced Spell, shifting over from center and giving redshirt freshman Jacob Maiava his first start at middle.
Defensive tackle Trent Turner will miss the game with an undisclosed injury. Turner appeared in the first two games and totaled 4 tackles.
Quarterback Alonza Barnett III was also listed as out, with the senior expected to miss an undisclosed amount of time while dealing with a significant hamstring injury. His replacement, Keyone Jenkins, was listed as probable.
Jenkins is expected to start against the Horned Frogs and will be the Knights’ starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
Tight end Dylan Wade, defensive back Jayden Bellamy and offensive lineman Cooper Terpstra were also listed as probable.
Availability reports are released daily starting three days out from game day and include several designations: available, probable, questionable, doubtful or out and on game days: available, game time decision or out.
