Mall leadership says they hope the update will bring in new customers while retaining past supporters.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — The Clay County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday at Orange Park Mall to unveil the retail center’s new brand.

Mall leadership says the updates include a more modern logo and color scheme, new signage, as well as updates to the lighting and furniture in the food court.

“What you see here today is part of that reinvestment given in the mall,” said mall general manager Randy Bowman. “A branded new look highlighting our tenants, unveiling our new logo that represents the 50 years past similar to the logo that was here in 1975 when the mall opened.”

The renovations come as the National Retail Federation released a report in January citing an uptick in customers visiting indoor shopping centers. Bowman says a big part of the rebrand is to welcome back former customers while continuing to attract new ones.

“It’s part of bringing the retention back to these indoor centers,” said Bowman. “We’re positioned well. We’re right off 295. We’re in a growing hub”

The glory days of indoor shopping malls in the 1980s and 90s heavily depended on foot traffic from teens. Last October, the mall implemented a code of conduct that says a parent or guardian who is at least 21 years old must accompany anyone under the age of 18 on Fridays and Saturdays. Bowman says the restriction isn’t keeping anyone from enjoying the mall.

“It hasn’t prevented them from coming,” said Bowman. “They’re bringing their parents or guardians with them and enjoying a relaxed shopping experience; you know, it feels like the eighties!”
