ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — With temperatures expected to drop below 40 degrees overnight, St. Lucie County and the City of Fort Pierce are opening an emergency cold weather shelter at the Percy Peek Gym in Fort Pierce.
The shelter will be operated by the organization ‘In the Image of Christ,’ a community nonprofit that partners with the county when temperatures fall below 40 degrees for more than four hours.

It will open at 5 p.m. on Monday and stay open until 8 a.m. Tuesday. The address for Percy Peek Gym is 2902 Avenue D in Fort Pierce.

For anyone who needs transportation to get there, art transit will offer free rides to the shelter from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at these locations:
Port St. Lucie Intermodal Station, 395 SE Deacon Ave. in Port St. Lucie Prima Vista Crossing Bus Stop on Prima Vista, east of U.S. 1 Pinewood Park, 820 Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Pierce Kilmer Branch Library, 101 Melody Lane in Fort Pierce Publix Plaza at Taylor Creek, 1851 North U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce
Officials are also reminding residents to bring pets inside tonight and say it’s illegal to leave any pet tethered outside unsupervised during this cold.
