Florida police captured a wanted man who tried to hide under a hotel bed Wednesday, despite his wife’s unsuccessful attempt to convince officers he wasn’t in the room.

The incident happened when Port St. Lucie police received a tip that a 41-year-old suspect, Kenneth Robert Ferow II, was hiding out in a hotel room, according to a department social media post. Ferow was wanted on an outstanding warrant for simple battery in Martin County.

At the hotel, Ferow’s wife told officers that the man wasn’t in the room, even though police had “credible information” he was there. Eventually, his wife gave officers permission to search the room.

“Their attention turned to the space beneath one of the beds,” the department stated. “There, officers located Ferow hiding underneath the bed. Officers gave Ferow commands to come out with his hands visible, and he was taken into custody without incident.”

Police released a photo of Ferow emerging from under the bed after he was discovered.

“YOU CAN RUN, BUT YOU CAN’T HIDE…SOMETIMES, THERE REALLY IS SOMETHING UNDER THE BED,” the department stated.

Officers found a substance on Ferow that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, and two children, ages 14 and 8, were also in the room. Ferow was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and two counts of child neglect, as well as the outstanding warrant.

“This is a great example of why our officers don’t simply take an answer at face value,” the department stated. “They observe, investigate, and follow the facts until they find the truth.”
